original zinc Deumer shield, the shield shaped backplates are not very common but do appear from time to time.

I believe yours is a faded KM shield as I had one exactly the same only with more gilt remaining, it also had the unusual yellow appearance to the solder to the prongs. My personal belief is that this shield was retailed as is without cloth and could then be stuck straight through the uniform sleeve- the backplate mirroring the shape would make sense in that case.
