Hi Dominik. Im no expert but i believe this to be a geniune LW Kuban. Could rearly do with clearer pics on the eagle. These are heavily faked and the quality of repos good. But i like what i see. My only concern is the coloration.
Is it Zinc or steel. Look forward to hear input from other forum members. Best regards.

I am afraid I don’t agree with you mrg as I have a different opinion on this shield. IMO this is the best fake <ST1Kuban shield around.
I am also almost certain that this shield is made out of zinc. When compared to the original role model you can hardly see the difference.
Most people can only keep them apart from knowing that the original shield is made out of (magnetic) sheet metal and the copy is made out of zinc.

Hi Pascal, I too thought Kuban Shield looked like Zinc due to colouration of shield. But from my own understanding thought very late war kuban shields were Zinc made? Is the general opinion Magnetic real, zinc false or is the opinion divided for and against. I understood a magnetic shield was a very good sign but not zinc was an immediate fake.

Hi mrg, whenever this type of shield is being discussed and I mention the fact that it is made out of zinc people always jump to the conclusion this is the mean reason for being a fake. That is NOT so. Whenever I see this type of shield I just know that one of the characteristics of this shield is that is being made out of zinc (although I hope that one of days I will find one made out of sheet metal).

Being made out of zinc doesn’t automatically means that the <ST1Kuban </ST1shield is fake. It is quite possible that also the <ST1Kuban</ST1 shield is made out of zinc. I am still very sceptical about it and I personally don’t have such an example in my collection and I never personally held and authentic zinc <ST1Kuban</ST1 shield in my hands. Also Detlev doesn’t mention the existence of a zinc shield in his new catalogue but I am very open minded about the zinc <ST1Kuban </ST1shields.<O</O
As a matter of fact I have a certain (zinc) type on my wish list……………

As for a rule you can NEVER say magnetic=good, zinc=bad. There many more aspect to take into account when your are looking for a good shield and the material of the shield is only one of them.
