    Campaign shield question

Am just getting interested in shields but know nothing about them.Am looking at a Kuban that appears to be polished(?).Would that alter it's value? Thanks

It is really hard to tell without seeing the actual shield. For the most part, yes, polishing will diminish the price as with most antiques.

      Polish

Ditto, since most polishes contain some sort of abrasive or neutralizer it stands to reason that it washes away the items natural appeal and patina. Most folks use Vasoline on Zinc or for preserving, and microcrystalline waxes such as RenWax for steel and other metals. Though I've read that Whitmann utilizes a non-abrasive polish called simichrome. I'd advise against it unless you plan on not reselling an Item.
