    My first shield, a Demjansk

Picked this one up from John over at German war booty. First shield I have in my collection and it has just the right amount of character. All seems original including the backing paper. Hope you like it

        Very nice looking first shield.

Mine was missing the backing plate, paper, cloth and pins. Plus all the added rust.

Sorry to bump this thread again. Forgot to ask if anyone knew the maker of this shield? While on the topic are there any reference books for shields out there you could recommend? Thanks again

The maker of this type of shield is unknown.
As a first shield I think you did extremely well .

This is the missing log type and only the first shields were without any die flaws. The later ones had a die flaw on the second log from the right and the numerals.

I think it is very rare to find an early shield with the original backing.
                      Well done!!
