    Cholm, an apology

Well, at least Stijn, Mike Heuer and Dez will probably remember my "not exactly textbook" Cholm shield I put here for discussion quite some time ago.

In retroperspective I say hats off to Stijn David and the others who could not fully convince me then I had a fake. Of course, they were right. I now do also believe so and apologize for having been persistent.

It was just hard for me to believe an expertise from Hartung is worth nothing more than toilet paper. Up to that time, I respected that medal collector dinosaur. All gone.

Since then I am also a bit wiser regarding Cholms and corrected that mistake and now have gotten hold of a good textbook one. No more riscs, no more jumping at good priced items with "photo expertises" unless I didn´t make my homework.

Enjoy this good one. Or so I think, hehe. No really, this one is good. Trust me. Really. Want an expertise?

    Cheers, Frank H.

            Yes Frank,

            It's a beautifull piece.

This is a great piece in every collection, embellished with panzer cloth.

As you see, it takes patience to find the correct pieces.

              nice to see

              Hello Frank,

There is no need to apologize to anyone ( at least not towards me ) , im happy you learned from your experience and that is what this is all about .

It is a really nice one you have there and if you ever get tired of it im in the line ( damn => my Cholmaddiction wil be hunting me untill the last of my days i presume ) )

Once again people => buy because you know not because someone says its original or because there is a certificate along, etc ... +> as we all learning, those things really mean nothing .

Frank how did you actually convince yourself that the one with the Hartung expertise was not so good ? , thats what is interesting towards me

              Friendly Greetings,

                Hello Frank,
nice shield. It seem to be the later "grey" version?!
I own the earlier version, with army backing.

I also knew a 100% genuine Cholm shield, made out of Messing. Does anybody else has seen this type of the Cholm shield?

                Greetings

Nice shield, Frank. Heinrich, I have never seen a genuine shield made of Messing (brass, auf englisch). I would not trust it, but that's just me

                      Hello Frank,

i know that they're made from iron or zinc, but this piece is 100% genuine piece, which came to light in the early 90's.

                      Greetings

                          Dear Stijn & all,

Glad you like my Cholm this time, yes it is beautiful AND worn.

How did I get convinced that my other previously shown one was fake?
Well, some things made me feel more and more uncomfortable:

-first you guys didn´t care much for it
-I found an exact match of my previous Cholm (shown below) on the table of a dealer at a show in Germany who sells high end fakes
-I saw more and more expertises from Hartung accompanying known fakes now that I pointed my attention towards it
-whenever a 100% Cholm shows up it does not 100% match the one shown below
-the guy that sold it to me continues to sell high end fakes in online auctions

To all recent members that do not know or remember the Cholm shield I am talking about:
It is NOT the (original) shield shown above in several pictures!!!

I will attach to this post a picture of the front and back of the Cholm shield that is very, very likely a copy although it came with a photo expertise of originality from Hartung, a (once) respectable and LONG time specialist in Third Reich awards who now seems to be not so knowledgeable anymore. He is not even a dealer in the word´s sense. He just deals with expertises and his price guides.

                          Cheers, Frank

                          THIS IS THE FAKE ONE:

                              Dear Frank

Glad to see you found yourself an original Cholm shield, what a beauty she is too. The detail is amazing. This hobby of ours can be very frustrating at times it can seem like the truth is so illusive.
