I received a Cholm album. The album has a shield on it.

This shield was very dirty.

Weak impression, so I thought it was a bad fake, and started to clean it.

Apparently it is painted in silver color. It went off pretty easily, and white surface appeared. Plastic?

No, it was another layer of some paint or something.

Then came out the brass (or any copper-compound) metal.

Seen this kind of thing?

Seen this fake before , i was told they made them in Austria in the 70,s , the veteran must have bought it post 1945 and put it on the album , or someone added it after getting it off the vet to try to increase the value .

Dear Akira,

Grant is right, it´s design is based on a metal fake pictured below. I have never seen it plastic coated though. Whatever it is, it must be postwar.
The design of an original shield is quite different.

I also had thought it being a baseball helmet fake, but got somewhat unsure while stripping it off. Didn't pay for the shield, just for the photos, by the way. If I have some time I'll try to strip it to complete naked to show what appears underneath.
