    Kuban Shield opinions please

    Hi,

I've been trying to read through some of the older Kuban Shield threads but half the images aren't loading for me. From what I can see of the shield in question, it seems OK but is lacking in detail (?worn) around the eagles head and the swas. I don't know if anything is magnetic (it's on offer) but it appears to have 4 stumpy prongs folded over from the edges.

Does it appear to be genuine and if so what is a fair price these days? All responses appreciated.

    Regards
    Mike K

Mike, My advice would be to stay away from this one. This is IMO not an original shield.
There are just too many things wrong with it.

        Hi Mike,

I agree with Pascal. It looks artificially worn. The black in the recesses is too dark compared to the rest of the shield. A worn shield would have more of a uniform look, rather than such a sharp contrast.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

          Hi Mike!

I agree, this shield is no good. The "43" looks odd and the details, especially in the place names, is very lacking IMO. I have one KUBAN that closely resembles this "style" of shield and the detailing is siginificantly better. Try a search and if my PICS are gone, e-mail me for some good detailed shots. I know where you can get a nice one if interested, let me know.

            Hi,

Thanks for all the opinions guys. I've already let the seller know that I've passed on it. Interesting to note that it was part of a deceased estate and that the 3 other WW2 German items in the estate were 100% genuine - but that's part of the story and nothing to do with the shield!
