Demjansk Shield Revisited

I posted this Demjansk shield several days ago and it was pronounced fake. I returned it (and a Krim I also purchased) to the dealer thisafternoon. He refunded me immediately but was distressed to hear they were bad. This man is not known for deliberately selling bad material.

It was said that this was a "known fake" and I would like to know what anyone can tell me about the origins of this particular fake...who is making them, where, and who is bringing them into the US? The man would like to know and frankly so would I. Inquiring minds want to know!

It is virtually impossible to say who is making them. "They" don't advertise. But if you watch certain fake peddlers sites you will see that theyalways have these shields.

I know that a lot of campaign shields were made during the war but they are getting rarer by the day. If you look at certain sites like the ones Don mentions and like for instance Millitariaweb and you see that this type of shield appears by the dozen week after week then you know that this is just not possible.

The Krim shield you asked for even gets sold as a copy on these sites. I have however never seen this type of Demjansk shield been sold as a copy. Otherwise I would have bought it as I am looking for some time now to study it and to prevent fellow collectors in buying this type of shield in the future.

So I would be highly interested to study this particular shield as I have only seen this type of fake before in zinc. So please tell your dealer that I would be interested in this Demjansk shield for a reasonable price.

As for the Krim shield you mentioned I am the one who bought it from Mike and I will post my findings on this forum when I received it.
