    Even More Krim Shields!

    Hi Everyone,

Well, having realised one of my Krim Shields is fake (thanks to Roman's thread (incidentally, the shield now resides in my 'junk' pile, and will be removed from my site very shortly), I wondered what you made of these two.

The first is without backing cloth. The beak doesn't look like a sparrow, and the 9's appear to be the same size. So, I'm erring on the side of optimism for this one.

The second one is not a very good photo I'm afraid. Again, I think this one is alright but would appreciate your comments.

One point I noticed since picking up on the recent Krim posts, is the level of detail to the most easterly point of the map, specifically around the dot indicating the location. On the fakes I have examined this would appear to be a pretty poorly defined, more or less straight line (indicating the inlet), whereas on the genuine ones there would seem to more angularity in the path of the water / inlet. Hopefully, this makes sense.

    Anyway, all comments welcome.

    Thanks for looking.

    Best regards,
    Toby.

          Hi Toby,

I have never seen the type of shield you posted first. So I can’t say if yours is good or not but IMO yours is a restrike. I think the shield lacks a lot of detail and I don’t like the font used for the date. This just doesn’t look right to me. Also the disappearance of the rim on the left side looks very odd to me.
Also having two different set of wings just doesn’t look right. I have never seen a Krim shield with wings like the ones on the right.

I am sorry IMO the first one is a fake.

The second looks better to me. I would definitely ask for better pictures because if you’re lucky you could end up with a Krim shield made by Friedrich Orth. It is difficult to tell from those pictures but it looks a lot like this type of shield. If it is a shield made by FO then the back cloth on this one is most probably been replaced.
