Hi Cook,
I am sorry but the shield you posted is one of the best fake Narvik shield around. Only the other day member Peter B showed us a similar one in this thread http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=57363
Some characteristics among others to look for on these shields is the very typical eagles head and the small "4" in the date.

Hi Cook,
It is my belief that there was indeed a Narvik shield with a “4” which was maybe a little smaller but it was also a little lower as the “0” so it looked smaller. I think the shield you posted is a copy from that shield.
On the shield you posted it is not only the small “4” which makes it bad. There are several characteristic which all together makes me belief that this is a fake Narvik shield.

Hi Cook,
All the Narvik shields like the one you posted have the following characteristics in common:
- Typical looking eagle
- Both wings touching the top bar
- Typical claws
- Typical “1”
- Small “4”
- Tip of the “9” is missing
I have never seen a original shield with ALL these characteristics. That doesn’t of course have to mean that if a shield has one of these point it is automatically is a fake. Only when you find ALL these points on a Narvik the chances are that is most likely a fake.
The shield you posted is a high quality fake and it tricked me also several times. Only after studying these shields very closely I think I can recognise these now.
