Does it exist variations on the low 4 fake?
Here is IMO a typical low 4 fake, here could you see clearly that the tip of number four is lower than the top of the 0

The shield that we talk about dont seems to have a so low 4 than the shield that i post right now

Hello,
The majority of real KM Narviks I have seen and owned have cloth backings (or no backing at all). How many have you see with paper backings?

I know Jody and i have cloth backing on all my Narviks aswell
I dont defend the shield in this thread just wondering about the difference in the number 4 between the fake shield i post to compare with the first one in this thread

I am not the thread starter on this thread but i still want to know whats the differens between the two posted Narvik shields ?
IMO they are not the same but if the thread starter Andy C could post some better pictures we maybe could figure this out

Well here is Narvik 1 and Narvik 2 and IMO they are not the same regarding the low 4 status.

Both look the same to me. I think you're seeing slight differences in angles, finish, and lighting playing tricks here.

Hi Andy,

That's what I think but, if you look at the oblique line in the number "4", you can see that same little upward slope or "bulge" on both examples.

I have noticed when photographing items, that even an ever-so-slight angle difference can cause a line to appear different when light strikes it and make the item appear slightly off. Lighting and shadows play a big part here in properly identifying items and why straight-on shots are always the best for verification purposes.

A U-boat badge is a good case in point, if the light hits above the deck area, the badge appears differently in the photo from one where the light hits below the same "line" of sight. Here, the shields are close but slightly different, based on the lighting.
