    Hello,

    Kind Regards,

This shield got me to think. I can be too sceptical sometimes in this hoppy.

Are these types a look alike or are the fakers getting realy good in copy this shield? what do you guys think.

        Hi Hlynur,

IMO, the shield on the left (the one that started the thread) is original. That shield shows some light surface rust and is indicative of an original steel shield. I can't say 100% on the paper backing, as I would prefer to see the matt black paper on this version however, I do like that it doesn't have uniform holes along the edge.

The other Demjansk you show (right) appears to be non-steel and IMO is one to watch out for.

          Hi,

The shield that Hlynur posted as a definite "Fake" is mine. I have posted this shield in this and the GCA forum and, after hundreds of views, have received split opinions on the originality of this shield (nothing definitive). So posting this as a definite fake is probably not a good comparison piece for the shield posted by the originator of this thread.

            I got you Gary.

IMO it´s fake but we can call it "controversial"

No need to call Gary's shield controversial.
Unless I am very much mistaken Gary's shield is made from iron sheet and is without any doubt original. This is the same type as Michael's shield which started this thread.
This type stood model for the well known zinc fake with the serif "J" and moving prop.

Okay Pascal. What can you tell me about these wide prongs on Gary´s Demjansk?

                  Hi Hlynur,
I absolutely agree with you that the prongs on Gary's shield are not of the correct type. These are indeed much to wide, some of which I have never seen before on this type shield.
In fact it wouldn't surprise me if the complete backing was replaced (as Kraut72 already suggested in the original thread).
However IMO the shield itself is an original shield.

Here is a comparing picture between an original iron sheet shield and a fake zinc shield.

Thank you for your reply Pascal.

I´m just trying to be careful here. Lot of fakes and "mess with it" items in this hobby

                          HI,

Thanks for the replies ref my shield. Would any of you recommend that I peel the paperbacking off to check the prongs?

I agree, if it's steel, then it's real.

Gary, personally I'd leave the backing alone at this point.
