Looks like the shield is pretty beat up along the edges and the wool looks pristine? Isn't there an opinion held by a pretty large crowd that these never existed also? seems like I had read that before. If its cheap buy it? if not cheap then you need to do your homework and not just go on opinions. I dont have enough knowledge on these to say good or bad, but it looks bad to me.

Simple, it doesn't look anything like a real one. They had no prong attachments or cloth backing. They were not official awards, just keepsakes of their time in the Lorient pocket. This is what a real one looks like.

              I agree with Tom here.

Here are the pictures of that shield. As always we prefer straight on pictures

As many have said. They were not approved to be worn as a shield; but were produced. It is next to impossible to find a genuine one. Many will state that they have genuine examples of these shields. IMHO: There are examples that could be wartime produced. However, For the price that these shields could demand. I wouldn't invest unless I had a photo of the veteran who served in the Lorient area, who had documented in their Soldbuch their location confirming service and a photo of them with the shield.
Purchasing a shield like this is always going to have people who are skeptical, like me, always questioning the originality, and will maybe mean that you won't be able to sell later on.

                Best regards,
                JustinG

This is just my opinion. Nothing more.

Justin, you forgot to add a certificate signed by Hitler including the scan of the shield
                  Just a joke.
You are right. The authenticity of one of these badges will be difficult (imposible?) to be probed allways.
