Bearing in mind I don't have enough experience to weigh an opinion.

The eagle wing, the lower lettering doesn't appear as crisp as the example from Pascal.
There is upper edging along the right fluke of the Anchor. The propellar at the lower portion seems thicker. The thickening of the 0 Zero; it doesn't appear to have the same taper as Pascals example.

    These are my observations.

As said, there are many things that can cause distortion. I eagerly look forward to reading members comments and debate on this shield.

Thanks for the comparing pictures Justin

When I first saw your picture the most striking difference I found was the difference in thickness between NA in NARVIK.
However when comparing this detail with another picture from Lou with mine the difference isn't that great at all.
Also the 19 are very similar. I still think the shield is original and a lot of the differences are due to the angle (and lightning) of the photograph.

I think that a good scan would be the best option to compare both shields.

Really an interesting difference and just goes to show how important small details are that can be distorted due to different scans, photos etc... when trying to compare details.
I hope that there will be better scans posted for this shield. Quite interesting.

I just took a quick picture of my shield, also at an angle.
And besides the damage at the beak on Lou's shield they look pretty much the same to me.

            Thanks Pascal,
But if you could post the heads of Floch and the shield in question that would be great.

Is it the shadowing of the PIC's, or is the area between the legs different in width?

                Hi Filip,

Here is a comparing picture of Lou's shield with a Floch fake. I definitely don't think they're the same type.

@Tim, I don't know with these pictures it is always dificult to tell.

The shield that started this thread is this the same type that you could see in Angolias book for Führer und Fatherland?

                    Hi Pascal

Tanks for posting the pics. I still think that the shield in question is a copy of Junker type and is one of the variations of Floch. There is no beak damage, that's the way it was made IMO

                      Hi Filip,
No problem. I am also not 100% sure that this is an original shield (or a fake for that case).
As mentioned before with the fakes getting better and better it will always be very difficult to tell from only pictures.

                      Great scan you posted .

                      Thanks for sharing,
                      Pascal
