Odd Afrika CT...never saw this one...

Anyone ever see one of these? Any chance it's real? I know I've never seen anything like it...but with my experience that's not saying much

I've never seen a black afrika cufftitle, it maybe a fantasy piece. But I'll let the experts weigh in.

There is a real pattern like this, and so far this looks pretty good. Need (as always) better photos.
(Maybe just my screen, but it's a little dark.)

Might be the KM version, if so, rare!
Maybe Jerry (Von Bond), Matt (Afrikasandman) could help on this
          Regards,

The silver on Black and white/ grey on black "Afrikakorps" CT did exist in 1941, these are pre-official titles privately ordered from tailors and distributed before the official version was avaliable esp to members of the DAK home on leave in 1941. The 2 specific examples I have exact details are from a member of the 90 Light and 15 Panzer. I can tell you exactly in Germany where they got their titles made. (The same thing happened with the "Afrika" CT in 1943)

I believe this style of Afrika is attributed to the Luftwaffe. It did exist and on this black backing I would tend to lean toward a pz guy having it, either HG or one of the Heer units. I think this one has a lot of potential. Matt

                Afrika

Well...I secured this one - the dealer has a liberal return policy and has shown good communication with me...so I'm comfortable taking a bit of a chance and returning it later if need be... Once I get it in hand I'll post closer pics of every angle for further analysis.

Kind thanks to you all for the help thus far

It looks to probably be a good one, and better pics when it arrives should hopefully confirm it is an original.
