    Demjansk from the SOS ...

A Demjansk I purchased at SOS -- the only shield I bought there. Still looking for a mint Narvik on Heer backing!

This one threw me at first but then, thanks to the Forum and the GCA database, I ended up buying it. This one is called the "Missing Log" and has the "9 Flaw".

                Shield

Nice shield. When I committed to going after a Demjansk myself, I chose this version. Researching in the forum as you did, I decided it was the easiest one to spot in terms of finding a good, original example.

Nice missing log version. Quite interesting to see the dye wearing out especially with the upper date numbers.

                  Regards,

                    Hi Justin,

Yes, this is an interesting shield and has been discussed a few times in the past. Peter (pantherv) had posted a composite PIC sometime back showing several wear patterns, including where either the log, or number 9, or both had been worn.

I think this is yet another case that strongly supports the multiple "production die" theory, as no definite timeline could have been possible with all these variations and using only one die.
