    Narvik

    Hi Gents,

This is my first post in this section so please be gentle with me

I've had this Deumer in my collection for a long time, from when I used to collect TR but, I've always wondered why it was mounted on KM cloth and it's not Gold? Although there appears to be "stains" of Gold here and there.
Maybe you guys can shed some light on this. Thanks, Chris

        Hi Chris,

Appears to be an original Deumer which lost his golden finish. Especially when you can still find traces of gold on the shield.

          Hi Pascal

Thanks for the info. Is this loss of color something that you've seen on other shields?

It seems unusual that it has lost complete Gold finish, if it was Gold originally. Even in the recesses around the wings, swaz etc. Maybe I'm seeing things when I say there are traces of the original color around the edelweiss, propeller...

I've seen complete loss of finish on EK2 spangen so I guess it's not impossible but I would like your educated opinion on this one as I intend to pass it on eventually. I would like to be 100% sure.

          Thanks again, Chris

            ....

Here's a Narvik I used to have in my collection with the gold wash slowly disappearing.

You shield looks good...Is the cloth backing that colour or has the flash photograph lightened it.

              Hi Peter

No flash buddy, I took the photo outdoors in the shade but it came out light. Here's another outdoor shot with a more true color to the cloth.

              Thanks for your help. Chris

Both shields are nice originals from the shown pics
imo. It`s the "later variante" of this maker with the
"closed" area around the eagles head.

Gent's, just one more question. How do you determine if the backing cloth/paper is good?

make that two more lol, did each maker use a different material, I've seen paper, leather type paper & cloth used. Can you tell from this material which came from who? Is there a standard?
