    LAPPLAND Shield

    Hi Fellows,

I would like to post my LAPPLAND for the membership. Though my permissions will not at this time allow attachments to posts. I noticed Wolf???? had the exact SAME shield posted on the POST YOUR Favorite shields forum on page 5.

Could you provide any information or opinions about his LAPPLAND shield?
I have sent him a privat post but do not no if he is still a member.

I noticed in the favorite shields forum that Wolf??? had one exactly like it. What are your thoughts about this one? does anyone here remember
what the opinions were of this LAPPLAND shield?
I have read much about these shields and other campaign shields and based on what I have read it is not a "57" or may be a post 46 or post 57 piece".

Thanks for any ideas and best wishes.

    Cheers,

    -R. Allen

Best thing to do is to become an associate member. It's $25 per year and well worth the money.
You can post as many pictures as you want and have the satisfaction that there are many people here to help you avoid falling victim to several forgeries/fakes.

On a side note, I am always skeptical when someone says they have the "exact" copy as another member. If that is the case, then if that member received positive feedback by people here whom their opinions are valued, then, you should feel comfortable with your item.

You can also use servers like photobucket. However, they check frequently and will delete anything with a swastika.

    Regards,

      Lappland Shield

      G'Day Justin,

My shield is exactly and I mean right down to the off-center mounting hole at the bottom and poor Lappland coast map on the shield. I know this shield is a really rough representative of a campaign shield and that none of these Lappland Shields were truly issued pre May 8th, 1945, but many soldbuchs and such had the awarding of this medal listed pre May 8th, 1945. I figured as the price was correct and many rough shields were fashioned in units up till Sept-Oct 45 under occupation or in POW camps that I would purchase this one. Thanks for the advice on purchasing membership, but there are extenuating circumstances just now that muddle things for me.

thanks for the input and bestens,

      -Rob

P.S. Someone has agreed to post the picture for me.

Whilst i've seen hundred of soldbuch entries and award documents i can count on the fingers of one hand and still have fingers left over, how many i've seen dated pre-8 may '45.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

            Lappland Shield Correction

            Hi Justin,

I would like to voice a disclaimer here at this time.
I said my shield is exacly like Wolf's but notice there are subtle font differences as well as other differences I've noticed, But it is still a crude fashioned shield very similar in material and work, (IMHO mine is probably fashioned by the same person or persons as wolfs for good or bad).

            thanks and cheers.

            -Rob

Glad that we can see it. Nice of Peter (PantherV) to do that.
It does look like a nice shield. As Simon Orchard pointed out, these shields are full of speculation and it is very difficult to put a time stamp on construction.
I also agree, this one has a nice appearance.

(I did not mean to insult or come off in a negative or hostile way in my previous posting)
This is one of the best forums and there are some truly gifted and knowledgeable persons here.

Glad to have you here and Welcome.

              Regards,
              JustinG
