    Cupal Cholm Shield

    Hi Guys,

we have this cupal Cholm shield on approval. Nothing we have ever come across but after doing some reading it would appear that these are really from the times.

Still, we´d like to get some opinions before putting such a questionable piece up for sale.

I do believe I have seen this shield before.

It is my opinion that there does indeed a wartime CupAl Cholm shield exists. However these shields have only 2 pins on the back and I do believe that shields weren't used as official awards. Most likely that the 2 pin CupAl shield was used on photo-albums.
There was a thread about these CupAl Cholm shields not so long ago on this forum.

The shield you are showing seems to be made from CupAl but has 3 pins on the back. I never seen a CupAl shield with 3 pins.

Also I seem to remember that this shield is not die struck but massive. If that's the case then I would return it as quickly as possible.

From an appearance point of view; it sure looks nice, clear crisp lines and nice details. Still, I would be hesitant.

Didn't Chris B. do an article on these sometime back?

I don't like the finish and the flaw on the top of the right wing. I remember my mistake on buying an Cupal Cholm witch turned out to be a Floch.

          Just my thoughts

Thanks guys, and thanks for helping me on the phone on Saturday Pascal. We took it along without paying so that everybody could have a good look at it. Back to the owner it goes. Still an interesting piece and I also believe it is from the times as quality is good and I haven´t encountered a cupal fake yet.

No problem. I am glad I could be of any help.
I also like these CupAl pieces. I am also convinced that there are original CupAl Cholm shields. Problem is however that there will always be some doubt about these pieces.
I have a CupAl Cholm in my own collection of which I am convinced it is original.
However when it come to selling there will always be some doubt about these shields.

Was I correct that your shield is indeed a massive shield and not die struck?

                  Thanks for the link.

Just to make sure, your fake Cholm shield is definitely made from CupAl and NOT magnetic?

The "2" looks the same on both. Oh, it was Stijn David that did the article in the past, not Chris B. Sorry Stijn!

Thanks. The shield is without a doubt a Floch fake but I can't remember seeing one before in Cupal....
