I have a couple of Krim & Kuban shields that I would like opinions on.Also what are opinions on Balkan shields ,are they fantasy or are they in the same category as the Lapland shield?thanks in advance.

Yes, any Balkan shield on the market today should be considered a copy but maybe not a fantasy shield as this shield could well have existed, but only as a drawing.

The lappland shield is an original shield but because these pieces were field made, they were crude and made out of a variety of materials, hence in most cases, impossible to say if a particular shield was made in 1945 or a later copy.....

I am no expert in shields, but Peter is right about the Lapland ones. they are common knowledge that these Lapland shields were made in the very last days of the war and no official copies exist. only crudely field-made versions exist. I mean crudely as in not the fine tooling we see and expect that quality from the mass produced ones.

Thanks to everyone for their help on these shields.I had bought (won) them at an online auction a couple of years ago , I will put them into the drawer with my other repos. Also thanks for the input on the Lapland & Balkan shield question.
