For me this is a good JFS shield although I have never seen this type of backing before, only the typical brown paper backing on JFS'. With the shield in the condition it is this MAY be a replaced backing...but I am not sure...I would wait for other opinions on the back paper.
It seems to have the typical JFS flaw's on the right log bunker. I hav circled them on the attachment.
I am going to take back my comment about the shield being original. Comparing it to other originals that I have posted it really lacks what you would come to expect on an original JFS. With all the negative points I posted and circled I no longer think this is a good shield. All the negatives on the obverse and the reverse...this is not a good shield.
I would tend to stick to those examples in posts 7 & 8 for JFS produced shields. The oval maker's mark is one that I have seen over the years on examples considered original by JFS, where as the stamped white J.F.S. (42) style stamps are common on their Krim shields, but not found on the Demjansk to the best of my knowledge.
