    Demjansk Schild for Review

One more Shield for you guys to review. Backing good?

    Very much appreciated fellas'

I really am not a fan of this sheild...I really dont like how everything is rounded off, especially in the DEMJANSK area...the backing looks bad considering the overall wear of the shield and the prongs are not much to be desired.

Looks as though they did this shield from a missing log varient.

It could be just a hard worn shield but it wouldnt be for my collection. Lets wait for others opinions on this one.

    Chris G.

      ......

I tend to agree Chris. I saw another 'missing log' like this and just couldn't make up my mind so didn't post.
Look at the 'half logs' up the side of the bunker on the right hand side and the shape of the eagles head.

Is there a known copy of the Missing Log.....Pascal??

There are several examples of the “missing log’ shields which I have seen and have in my collection and all of them show a high level of detail.
The shown example doesn’t show that level of detail.

If it was a highly worn shield this wouldn’t fit in with the mint backing paper and backing plate.

This together with the wrong backing paper and the wrong prongs for this shield would make this a shield I would not like to have in my collection.

IMO.. I don´t like this pice, no details overall on the front and these prongs are not desired.

          I would stay away

Pascal, thanks for the explanation. This is certainly a dangerous copy and I can see this fooling a lot of collectors...

This one is about as bad as I have seen, it should not even fool a novice.

                I agree......

......with Marvin on this one. Very crude looking attempt. His comment precisely matches my feeling about this shield.

As Pascal pointed out, even well worn examples still exhibit a fairly high level of detail. This one is not even close and the prongs are...
