    New Demjansk

    Hello All,

Here is a new Demjansk shield I got over the weekend from a friend of mine. It seems to be a nice side prong version but I just wanted to check everyone elses opinions to confirm my own.

It seems to have a little crack in on the head but I have seem on a few of these that many have the same crack. I think this may have been a weak point in the die or just a die flaw.

Please let me know what you think...

    Regards,
    Chris G.

The shield is original without any doubt. But the backing paper I'm sure is a post-war addition. Nice , rare type.

The paper backing on the reverse looks original to the badge to me. It fits the badge perfectly...but I am not even close to an expert on shields. At the same time I have not seem a side prong shield with a paper backing.

                Regards,
                Chris G.

You're on a tear man! That's a sweet badge, nice addition to your collection! Looks practically mint to me.

Thats a nice original slanted 4 shield in excellent condition. I've only ever seen these backed with a brown paper but looking at the way the tabs show and the shield is obviously unworn I would say that black paper is the original backing. Great addition!

The original paper on this type is light brown. There is a number of these shields out there without any paper at all. The paper backing on this particular Demjansk looks like it was cut from the black photo-paper envelope and in no way resembles the original in any way or form . I stick with my initial assessment, though I still like the shield a lot.

                        Filip,

Thank you for your opinions on the backing I really appreciate it.

I have studied shields a little bit and have never been able to seen any side prong shields with a backing so I have nothing to go by in my opinions. I was wondering if you possible had some photos of an original side prong with the paper backing?

                        Thanks,
                        Chris G.
