    SS KRIMSCHILD from J.F.S.

    Hi,

what is your opinion about that unissued Krimschild.

It is all black, I would say, it is Waffen-SS, what do you think?

    Thanks
    Udo

Hi Udo....A nice JFS Krim with loads of character. I wouldn't call this one unissued...looks tunic removed to me.

Why do you think this shield's came from an SS man?... It's just the way the shield's worn. There never was a particular shield that was awarded to the SS. The JFS was always a bit darker than other Krims.

Here's a near mint JFS to compare.

I thought, it could be Waffen-SS because of the black material.

WH had them with fieldgrey material, WL with blue material....

          Am I wrong with that?

          Thanks
          Udo

Waffen-SS didn´t wear black uniforms, only if they were Panzer troops, but also Heer Panzer troops wore black uniforms.

            If black=Panzer

But I think it looks more Luftwaffe grey, but that is only juding from the photos.

Easy to answer if you know your history.
No W-SS fought in the Krim campaign.

The leibstandarte fought north of the Krim, but quicly moved east towards Donetsk and Rostov. This was in the early stages of the battle.
They were not eligible for the shield.

If you see W-SS with a krim-shield, you may consider them as WH or LW personel that got transferred to the SS later on.

                Kind regards,
                Philipson

Background looks dark grey to me as well; I'd say Heer IMO. Here's two more; the one on the right has black cloth and you can see the difference.

                        Hi Peter,

No, IMO, it's not KM. Compare the two below, the Orth is on KM dark blue backing and the JFS is clearly black; noticably different. The KM cloth on the Krim matches the KM Narvik I have, so...

I lightened the PIC a bit to show the Orth is actually a blue and not black.
