Narvik Shield KM - Your opinion requested

    Hello dear all,

today I got this KM-Narvikshield. Although I have a good feeling with it I would really appreciate your comments. It came to a friend last week -so he told me- directly from the vet´s family together with his KM-jacket with the same type of shield on the sleeve.

Shields are not my best area of knowledge …

What do you think? Is is a good one? Could it be a Deumer? It is in very good condition and still has a fine guilding. I think it made from zinc (has a little bubbling and very little corrosion) and in all parts not magnetic.

What makes me a little disturbing is the sewn cloth from obverse and reverse, like a cushion. You can see it quite well on picture # 2. I´ve never seen something like that. The obverse cloth is very dark blue and the backside is more black than blue, the pictures show it much too bright.

Thank you very much for your comment.

    Best Regards

                Narvik Shield

                Hi Max,
I like it too, nice zincer. BTW, KM Narvik shields tend to have cloth sewn backs and not paper. I have seen this on both zinc and tombac examples.

                  Sweet looking badge.
I'd do something about that Zinc pest though.

                    Hi Max

The shield is not by Deumer. Some attribute it to Junker, some to Deschler.
The cloth is fine on both sides. It is not too uncommon for the back cloth on Narvik shields to have slightly different shade.

                      Hi Max,
Your shield is the second type of the so called Juncker shield.
It was however never established without any doubt that these shields were really made by Juncker.

Very nice shield and not so easy to come by.

                        .....

Agree with the comments....nice shield. I'd leave the Zinc pest and just try and keep the shield in a decent environment.

Won't the pest spread and damage the shield even more?

                          Kill the pest I say

                          Nice shield

I don't think it's possible to get rid of Zinc pest. It'll take decades to destroy the Zinc. I guess all you can do is slow it down.

And enjoy it while you can....

                              Hello all,

thank you very much for your answers and the nice comments - I will sleep better now .... :-)

In reality the zinkpest does´nt look that ugly as it does on the pictures. I gave it a smooth treatment with vaseline and I think that´s ok now, its not impressive.

I like it now as it is and will leave it as it is.

Thanks again for all your answers.

                              Best Regards
