Hi Richard
I think he would have received it.
The awarding Conditions are listed in the institution decree (AHM 42 n°717, 07/09/1942, Mvbl 42 n°741, 15/09/1942) :
It says that in order to be awarded the Krimshield, the soldier must require at least one of the 3 following conditions :
1- service in the operation area during at least 3 months
2- or to be wounded in that zone
3- or to attend to a specific fights :
1-Durchbruchsschlacht bei Perekop from 21 to 30/09/1941
2-Durchbruchsschlacht bei Juschun from 18 to 27/10/41
3-Verfolgungskampfe auf der Krim, Durbruch auf Kertsch from 28/10 to 16/11/41
4-first Angriff auf Sebastopol from 17 to 31/12/41
5-Schlacht bei Feodosia from 15 to 18/01/42
6-Abwehrkämpfe an der Parpatsch-Stellung from 19/01 to 07/05/42
7-Wiederoberung der Halbinsel Kertsch from 08 to 21/05/42
8-Einnahme von Sebastopol from 07/06 to 04/07/42
If the soldier was killed during the fights into Krim, it makes sense that condition 2 (at least ) is carried out.
Regards
Denis
