    Cupal Narvik

Just picked up this Cupal Narvik. Can't say I've seen this type before in Cupal. Does anyone know the Maker.

    .......

Here's a comparison with the so called 'Snaggletooth' Narvik thought to be a Junker.

            Hi Peter!

I have been meaning to post on this thread and now see your PICS are gone. I really like your shield! I once had a mint Heer one very much like it, but (and Pascal and Frank know the issues) after looking at some minute details and Detlev's "copy of the week" back then, decided it was in fact a high end copy of the original shield you have here.

If I have time and can find the old PICS of the one I used to have, it would be interesting (to me at least) to compare with yours on weight, dimensions, and minor details.

Let me know if you're interested. Yes...Pascal can play too...I know we have disagreed on this one for a very long time.

                      Thanks Peter!

Sorry I wasn't more timely on this.

Here's the Narvik I once owned a few years ago and ultimately returned after having some concerns and Detlev had posted a "copy of the week" later on that reinforced my opinions on it, though he somewhat recanted his opinion once confronted by the selling dealer later on. So, who knows..

Not sure if the old thread still exists, but we'll just start a new one.

I have always thought the shield I had lacked clear sharpness from others (like yours) that I considered original.

The dimensions are close, but I'll list mine here.

                        Weight: 27.7 grams
                        Height: 99.0 mm
Width: 38.10 mm (on the crossbar)

I believe it was CupAl, but it may only been made to appear that way. More photos will show what I am talking about.

Here at the bottom of the shield, if you look closely, you can see a definate ridge/line running horizontally across the shield with what appears to be copper or a copperish color, but it appears layered and not what I would really consider CupAl.

Here's the top and again you can see the line running along the edge.

Another one on top, but I want to point out the backplate with the cut corners. At the time, most Narvik shields I seen up to that point had the oval backplates and as I will show later, Detlev also called out his "copy" with these cut corner backplates.

Shield and backplate are both non-magnetic.

I wanted to add that the backplate is rounded on the ends, only with these cut corners. The other thing that stood out for me was that the bottom cloth (front and back cloth) were cut evenly with the backplate, so it would have been impossible to sew this item on the uniform as shown, there is just not enough material to attach on the bottom as the backplate is flush.

This told me either the piece might have had new cloth applied, been a quality issue and a throw away, or simply an outright fake, along with the other concerns.
                              Tim

***I just remembered that the cut corners were only on the top and the bottom was rounded, but flush with the front and back cloth.***
