Well, it's quite possible Dave. If so, congrats as they are hard to find and especially in such fine condition. Black backing paper looks good on this as well and what I normally like to see.

I just wanted to bump this one to the top for easy reference when I open a new thread concerning the type of Krim that started this thread.

          Tim,

Have a close look at the shield...I believe its the unmarked shield that is reputed to be from FO. Looks the same to me.

            Hello,

Cloth and Paper are replaced with the FO sign 100%. Friedrich Orth used exclusively only Kaliko as cover!

            Regards Jan

Not quite sure what you mean with this one Jan but I for one (and a few others) who do not count this shield as an Orth shield. I believe it is an unknown maker at this stage which would account for the fact that it does not have a Kaliko cover as you stated.

                Hello Phil,

I meant the second sign Shield ! First is a Zinker also in the Orth the Design is manufactured. Unfortunately this type is not marked and it is missing to me the 100%igen of proofs for the allocation!

                Regards Jan

I would like to bring the discussion about the second shield to the top. What is the verdict about this one. Is it an original shield? jacques

Hi Jacque...if you mean DavidB's shield, it's an original shield for sure. I just question whether the cloth has been added. As Jan says, the backing paper is the wrong type used by F.Orth.

F.Orth used a leathertte paper in black and light and dark greens.

The shield you show that started the thread is probably original in the style of the Orth shields but as far as I know there's no evidence these were made by that company.

Look at the Schwerin U-Boat eagle, this style of eagle was copied many manufacturers of the U-Boat badge.

                    Hope that helps....

As Peter said the shield it's an original one, but the back paper was added, as probably the cloth too. When, it's impossible to say.
