    Lappland shield "hand made"

    I have see that several dealers offer Lappland Shields han made. How to difference the good from bads? I post two examples.

        Hi Mike.....there's quite a few of these hand made shields around....they may have been made in 1945 or last week......if your after one I'd tend to go for the so-called soap dish cast type.

            Pascal is right, when it comes to the shields themselves almost impossible.

            However i know who's offering both shields you show and the top one comes along with a couple of docs which are absolutely genuine. The Lappland doc in particular is unquestionable IMO thanks to the obscurity of the unit, the location mentioned and the style of doc.
            Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

                          I'd have to be the one receiving a Lappland Shield from the recipient himself to have any faith one of these was period made.

                            I thought it was overpriced by a couple of hundred euros myself. Would have preferred it had the medals not been with the group, there's no way of telling they belong anyway.

                              A stupid question.............but why would they sew these shields to cloth backings?

                              And why would the backings be bottle-green?
