    Demjanskschild - Karl Wurster?

    Hi,
This is a shield that I've had for a while - I think this is a Karl Wurster shield - does anyone agree / disagree? It is convex and both shield and backplate are magnetic.

    Thank you

    Seigfried,

Can we see the back? Looks like a Wurster to me as well; very nice condition.

    Here's mine.

Sure - no problem. I thought it was a Wurster but wanted a fresh pair of eyes as I'm trying to catalogue my stuff!

        Seigfried,

I'm used to seeing the textured type background on these, but I believe the backing on yours is also acceptable for Wurster shields; don't quote me on this and please double check with Pascal as he has handled many more than I and also has a Wurster example in his collection. Does it look like it might be a recent added backing?

I would think that this is a very late Wurster shield. If you compare the shield with the one from Tim you can see that they are clearly from the same maker but Tim's shield is better detailed.

As for the paper I can't tell. Could be period, could be applied later, as what I think happend to an awful lot of shields.
The textured type paper is indeed typical for the Demjansk Wurster shield.

            Hello Guys,
Thanks for the input I remember posting this shield a couple of years ago and Pascal giving it the although he did not name the maker at the time - hence this post. It is a mint, probably unissued and certainly never worn shield. The perceived lack of detail is probably due to my photography, the lighting and the shield's finish - the details are actually quite sharp in the flesh. My shield still has the painted finish as opposed to many of the burnished, shiney ones that have obviously seen action. As for the backing I cannot tell if it is period applied or not - there is no area where there is any peeling or anything. I do not mind if it is a later shield, I am only concerned as to the maker and the originality. Thanks again for your time.
