Opinion Please for This Cholm Shield

Yopu are right of course. I hadn't though of that, but I agree if it were priced to take into account the condition, its still worth having. I'd buy it at the right price anyway.

I have no beef about this shield but personally I think you guys are making mountains out of mole hills! In the flesh the shield isn't shiny and I could find no evidence that it had been scrubbed with wire wool. I feel that the photos from Bryan have too much flash thus giving this appearence! In my experience photographs quite often do lie!

Look at the example by Dez H, it has the same appearence and this type of shield just doesn't have the sharpness of the other type. That doesn't mean it has been scrubbed flat!

The Cholm shield is a rare piece, I really think you'd be EXTREMELY lucky to find one for $250 ! I have never seen a Cholm shield in ANY condition for less than £400 ($650), so Frank next time you see one let me know and i'll snap it up!

Sorry Rich, I know these aren´t offered cheap. The 200-250 USD is just the price I personally would pay for a shield in the condition as it APPEARS to be in Bryan´s pics.
I agree that same shield looks better in YOUR pic. Maybe the shield went through other hands between you selling it and Bryan buying it. Somebody may have given it a bit of a treatment in the meantime.

I am pleased to see all the comments and opinions. It is my pleasure that I can see all of you trying to help me. I would like to see more pictures that related to this variation.

Within this thread, I tasted many different situations......fake, original, good, not good, over clean, over priced..........I think all of these are due to my poor photographic skill and poor lighting control. Please forgive me.

I am now post a new set of picture of this shield and hope we can start our evaluation and exam it once again for me.

Hope you all feel comfortable to leave me the opinions again.

Well, the camera certainly can lie - as far as condition is concerned at least. Bryans new p[hotos make it look much better.

I never thought it was "wrong" before, and seeing it anew, it looks even better. Now rather then being a genuine piece but well worn condition, it looks like a genuine piece in pretty good condition. (No one - apart from Rich- said anything about it being "scrubbed flat", but I have seen a couple of heavily pitted Cholms over the years which had clearly been scrubbed with wire wool giving exactly the shiny look that Bryans first photos suggested).

Gene, your three shields are outstanding. This is what I would expect if I were to purchase one. Considering the costs of a Cholm Shield today why would one have a shield that is not as "sharp" in the details? As for Brian's shield, I still am not comfortable with it. Sorry.....

I see 2 types of shields presented here - The "low bar H" type with the longer M and the "centered bar H" type with the shorter M - I know for a fact that my shield was a presented piece (center bar H , short M ). On Richards shield ( low bar H , longer M ) I see the purchase price 2,40 written on the back in pencil, which tells me this was a private purchase piece. Dez and Gene have the same style shields as I do. Richards shield ( private purchase ) and Bryans shield are of the same general type ( low bar , long M ). Gene and Dez: do you know if your shields are actual awarded pieces? We may be comparing earlier awarded pieces vs. later produced private purchase pieces here. I ask this because I personally have only encountered the center bar H and short M type on actual awarded pieces - pieces that have definate provinance attached to them. Maybe Stijn can help here!?

Gene and Dez: do you know if your shields are actual awarded pieces?

Eric; I do not have any history on my shield, it was picked up a few years ago from a local gun shop. The reverse has 3 pins but no paper backing.

Richards shield ( private purchase ) and Bryans shield are of the same general type ( low bar , long M ).

It is one and the same shield, not as in "type" but as in the "SAME".

I also have the short M type and cannot really help therefor.
