Hi Scott,
Both shield are not as what I think is the officially awarded Cholmshield, that is magnetic, "normal" M, 3 prongs and razor sharp details.
Having said that, I do like both your shields and I think both of them are original.

I don't like either one. The first one posted has what I see as inconsistent symmetry to the letters and the second one I don't care for the eagle's beak. These are getting better and better but these two examples (as well as Bob Hritz' that was given a thumbs-up) to me are high quality fakes. I have owned three Cholm shields and sold one, and once you have seen a known original Cholm shield you will know what I am saying.

Cholm shields

Hello,

Sad message im afraid, bot shields are not good ones IMHO. Feel free to look the forum up for the different shields as discussed, you will get a hang wich ones are accepted as originals.

Iff questions do still are present, feel free to post close up scans etc ... and im sure the members will be able to give more info about the dislike.

If you look through the old threads it will drive you crazy.I have. Seems like the truth changes all the time.One week a shield is "blessed" as good and the next week an identical shield is

,depending on whose commenting. I think it would be easier if the "experts" got together and sorted out the good ones and developed a thread which could be later pinned showing details of as you put it shields that "are accepted as originals". WR Jim

Indeed opinions do differ from each other about wich ones are original, i am however pretty confident that you can see a clear line in wich persons do say a certain shield is good and who has a different opinion.

There is no consensus to be reached between party's involved as there is to much money involved etc .... => the sad fact will be that you have to make up your mind for yourself.

Iff you believe in it then everything is fine IMHO, check out wich shields are accepted as 100 % originals and wich ones have questions about them. Iff you want a 100 % certain one then only look for one where there is no discussion about. Iff you want to take a risk then go ahead and obtain one where opinions are not consequent.

Just my 2 cents worth however.

Nieman was finally called in to make the final ruling which was

Hello,

Yes that thread is still fresh in the mind and do understand your guys frustration. In that thread there where also persons who did not like the shield from the very start, etc ... but it seems that they where not believed towards me.

Anyway thats the whole point, search for a shield as the one Gene is showing in that particular thread and you will have one where there is not even need for a discussion. But do not expect that there are original cholmshields up for sale at every dealer and every corner of the internet.

Sure originals do pop up but not on the frequence they do today. I have written a article in the past about howmuch Cholmschields where awarded with a analysis how the number is reached that i believe in, etc ... => howmuch persons have ever bought the publication where this article "Das Cholmschild - Eine Urkunde Erz******228;hlt " is to be found? (not that much and as far as i remember and know of - only 2 members of this forum) All interested persons can have a direct knowledge however on the rarity of these shields but not that many seems to care, etc ...

I do give this example on the article subject for the following reason, once your know howmuch where awarded then start to look for original photographic evidence of the shield in wear (you will not be al that succesfull), or search a Soldbuch with a original Cholsmchield entry, or even the award document. Makes you think doesn't it? and then go for a perfect shield as the one Gene has posted (as those are the real awarded ones) => your quest will even be harder. But they are our there for sure but not in the numbers as you do encounter them on todays market.
