    Am I right in thinking that it is a Josef Feix and Sohne shield.

      Yes you are. This is an original shield made by JFS.

          A nice original that looks like it was tunic removed. Nice to see the JFS 42 stamp on the backing.

              Thanks Dale, I see from looking at KRIM shield threads you seem to mention Gablonz quite often, so pardon my ignorance on this but if this shield is a JFS, where does Gablonz fit in?

                Gablonz was a city in the Sudetengau (now Jablonec in the Czech Republic) that had a long tradition of making jewelry, pins, medals, badges, etc. As soon as the Germans took the Sudetenland in 1939, a lot of these manufacturers in Gablonz began producing medals and badges and I mainly focus on collecting these. JFS was a very prolific Czech badge maker. These marked Krim shields aren't rare but they aren't very common either. I probably see only a few for sale every year.
