    1957 Schnellboot badge

As part of my efforts to establish a nice Kriegsmarine collection I have acquired most of the 1957 versions of the war badges, as well as the Honor Roll Clasp and the Narvik
Shield. In fact, it was fairly quick and easy to do so. But one badge that has eluded me is the 1957 Schnellboot badge. And not only have I not been able to obtain one of these, but I
have never, ever seen one offered anywhere, despite a fair amount of Internet searching. And that leads to what might be a stupid question: Is there such a thing?

    George,

Yes indeed, such a thing does exist. I can't really say why it turns up so infrequently, but you are right, it is a hard beast to track down. Last one I saw was around $100 which is quite high for a 57 badge.

There is only one version, and it is based on the 2nd Pattern version of the badge, but of course without the eagle and swastika.

I like the 57 Naval Awards too and like you, have built up a set to match my original wartime badges. Very early examples of the 57 Naval awards are just as nice as the wartime pieces in quality and appearance.

Thanks Gordon. I had a feeling that if this badge existed it would be in the second form (ohne Adler und Hakenkreuz, naturlich!). Anyway, I'll keep an eye (and wallet) open for it.
By the way, I'm REALLY looking forward to your EK book!
      Best regards,
      George

        George,

The schnellboat badge does most definately exist in the 57 version and is one of my favourites next to the sea battle of the luftwaffe or air sea rescue badge as some people like to call it. In the 2nd pattern only until i'm proved wrong, I have three at the moment, one of which is a very old one and still boxed. If you remind me when it's not so early in the morning I will post some pictures of them for you. They don't come cheap, expect to pay ******163;100 plus pounds for one. As far as I know they are one of the 57 awards that they made the fewest of which is probably why they are a devil to lay your hands on. Hope this helps.

        Cheers and happy hunting !!
