    Mark on GAB

I recently acquired a General Assault Badge that I believe to be original. A funny thing about it is there is the letter "w" on the reverse to the left of the hinge. The attached picture pretty much shows it. Anyone ever seen this before? If so, does it represent a maker, or a faker? I looked at the GAB's on the forum and the front and hinge of mine most closely resemble #11. Also attached is a link to pics of the entire badge. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    G'day Blake
I too have a GAB with the W mark. A while back I posted a thread in regards to this mark. From memory no-one seemed to know who it was but the general consensus was that it was a legitimate maker's mark. I haven't got a decent picture of my badge and it's mark but will post one if I can get one. I will see if I can find the thread as well.

Blake I cannot find the thread but remember that another member Mike Kenny also has a badge with the same mark. Your badge appears to be in better condition retaining much more of its silver colour. Mike's badge and mine has a slightly different mounting for the hinge than yours as well. Your hinge appears to have a small plate under it. Is this correct? The hinge on mine is fixed directly to the back of the badge.
here are a couple of pictures of my badge. The W cannot be seen very clearly but is in the same postition as yours. http://home.iprimus.com.au/sandmedmeads/GAB10.jpg http://home.iprimus.com.au/sandmedmeads/GAB10aa.jpg

Scott, thank you for the information and link to the pictures. The hinge on my GAB is one piece. It looks like it is mounted on a plate but that is just part of the main hinge that is bent over to give some area to solder to. The attached picture shows the configuration a little better.

Thanks again for the info! Blake
