    Suspect Luftwaffe Honour Goblets

Recently a militaria dealer asked me to look at 3 Luftwaffe "Ehren Pokal" Honour goblets, which were on consignment,I'm not an expert on the awards of the Luftwaffe as my speciallity is Army/Waffen-SS awards and the higher bravery awards.
However,I thought I give them a look over I have an article from the German Militaria Magazine "INFO" from the 1980's.One Goblet was heavily tarnished and came from a veteran,it was marked"Feinsilber ALPAKA J.Wagner,Berlin" etc.The engraving was very dark hard to read but ledgible it seemed to be original!
The other two Goblets on the other hand were mint and one was in its original case. These for all intents and purposes were the same as the tarnished one,I would believe them to be "original" but for the engravings!
The engravings stuck out like a sore thumb, they looked like they were done only last week,no tarnishing and most suspect done by the same engraver! What are the chances of two goblets having the same engraver?
They were named to" Oberfeldwebel Willi Dietrich,18.8.1942" and "Unteroffizier Heinrich Meyering,23.10.1942".These two came from a dealer in Northern Germany a few years ago and belonged to one collector. The goblets were on consignment.
I have some more information pertaining to the origin of the "Renamed" goblets and how many were sold, should anyone wish to know this info you can contact me via the FORUM.

    Yours sincerely,
    Seppl

    Hi,
Interesting topic, you could read more on Ehrenpokal at http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/hono...blet/first.htm , the authors (héhéhé) start to speak about the new engraving or re-engraving.
About 3 years ago, a nice Honor Goblet from a KC winner (H. Kuntz) was proposed for sale - the price was quiet hight, but ok,it was a KC winner - so I was interested (because I have his leather jacket) but the problem was that the original Goblet was still with Kuntz (alive at this time) - so I didn't buy it, but somebody else did - new engraving/re-engraving, I am not sure, but with the time, I saw many Ehrenpokal and also documents I didn't like too much.
Some books (like Scheibert, H. (1986) Die Inhaber Des Ehrenpokals Fur Besondere Leistung Im Luftkrieg) and articles like the one on the forum give a beginning (I hope) of reference on the subject.
The Honor Goblet is a nice and hight award, often sold for a good price, so, like the other awards, it seems logical that they are faked.
An other point, I saw many original Ehrenpokals looking brand new simply because they were "cleaned or washed".
If you have pics they are welcome here, but, please, we want to keep the topic and the place "clean".
