    Unusual pilot badge ...........

    Hi,
I attach pics of a pilot badge for the first time encountered (at least by me) and where I have no clue even if the construction appears to me correct:
    Tombac quality
    Weight: 40.87 gr
    Wreath: 52,89
    Wings: 65,32
    Maker mark:
    J. or D. Deutschbein
    EUSKIRCHEN
It looks to be another marking on

I would be happy to hear as many opinions as possible.
    Friendly
    François

Nicely made, but I would pass. Correct construction and Material and superb Quality are by no means enough to chance a badge with a totally unknown Pilotbadge maker in this day and age.

It appears to be copied from a BSW. There are quite a few copies out there that have been made from a BSW mold, with many different makers marks. Can anybody confirm if this maker (Deutschbein) existed in this city (Euskirchen)?

Is J. or D. Deutschbein a known maker of anything?

          Hi,
This badge really breaks my head.
          As Chris says:Nicely made....etc.
It's a BSW badge as Tim says.
With BSW on it or no makermark it would fool me,but I can't proof it's a fake,it's mostly hard to say from a picture.
          I don't know the maker.
I've seen this or the same badge somewhere.
If I remember well, there was one for sale at Andre Hüskens or Sammler-Cabinett a few weeks/months ago with the same makermark.
I agree with Tim that there are many fakes of the BSW badge, most I've seen were cast pieces with wreath, hinge and hook cast in one piece.
This however is a very high quality badge, but people didn't trust it earlier as you can see by the scratches on the back of the eagle(thinking it was a lead example maybe?)
I will follow this topic with eagle-eyes as I'm as curious as you.
          Regards,
          Jos

I just found this posting. Sorry to bring up such old topics but, I have one of these same pins in it's original presentation box. I've always wondered what it was. It's authentic I'm very sure of that.
              Thanks for the info.

Just had a quick 'German' Google and that maker pops up a couple of times but only in connection with belts:
