    Postwar DKiG by St&L

    Hi,

Recently picked this up from a Belgian collector. Advertised as DKiG it arrived as a DKiS .

Yes, I know swastika items are no-go here, but this one illustrates that St&L still made these well in the sixties.
Seeing the hardware, this is most likely mid-sixties ? Still great quality and heavy badge weighing in at 76,60 gram.
For me, another nice buy, especially as the DKiS version is much harder to find than the DKiG version.

    Thanks for looking,

    Mathijs

    Hi Mathijs,

a nice and interesting DKiS. Congrats on this one. As you said, the postwar DKiS is harder to find than the DKiG. Interestingly this is the same for S&L and Souval.

S&L made many interesting German Crosses in the postwar period. So many variants and combinations....

    - light variants with flawed and unflawed wreath
    - light variants with different colors of the starburst
    - heavy variants with flawed and unflawed wreath
    - heavy variants with different colors of the starburst

It’s not only the early wide pin crosses that are nice. All of them are beautiful in their own way. As you know, I love picking up these German Crosses as well
Thanks for showing this DKiS, it’s certainly one of the more interesting pieces I’ve seen here lately.

    Regards,
    Alex

I now understand why my late DKiG is “heavy and flawed” in contrast to might mid DKiS and DKiG. Very helpful. This is a great example Mathijs, with the bronze star burst by the looks. Amazing how the silver frame for the swaz has lost the wash; or is that just patina?

On another note, where is the best source for a repro box. I’m one presentation box short. I really need two S&L ones, but that ain’t in the budget at present.

Tony, there is much that can be learned from these pieces. It’s unfortunate that swastika bearing pieces of the postwar period are an underrated collection field. Even with over 30 such crosses, there is something interesting about each of them. There is nothing like studying these pieces in person.
As for the silver outlines of the swastika on S&L German Crosses; I have noticed wear on this part on quite a few S&L crosses. It’s nothing uncommon.

        Regards,
        Alex
