    Medalbar for WW1 Veteran

Here is a newly arrived medalbar, for a veteran of WW1!!!!
The bar is typical of early 57 period production, and the medals are all 50's/60's veterans replacement pieces.....

      Hi Nigel,

What do you think of the quality of the 57 version of the medals compared to the original medals? Don't collect WW1 so don't know myself.

      Regards,
      Rudy

          Oldenburg Friedrich August Cross.....
A very similar piece to one that Steve showed us several years ago!!
          Again, I believe by S&L.......

            Hi Rudy!!
            Very different I would say!!!
In most cases, not of as good quality, certainly not as heavy, usually much shinier finish, especially for gold and silver pieces....
But having said that, they have their own "look", and are (IMO) really attractive, and collectable in their own right!!
            I really like them!!!!

Was the Hindenburg Cross discontinued after the war?

                  Hi Paul!
No, the Hindenburg cross was made in the 50's and 60's by both Deumer and S&L, many bars assembled in this period do have them on, sometimes later made pieces, sometimes 30's originals, some vets didn't include them on their bars for whatever reason....just personal choice I guess?

                          -Nigel

Nigel, my first thought on the Hesse War Merit Medal would have been S&L.
However it doesn‘t match the S&L medal shown below in their catalogue, so not a S&L made medal as far as I can tell.
The only other maker that comes to my mind would be Deumer.
                          Regards,
                          Alex

Deumer could well be the maker of this one then!!!!
