    Wide pin KvK w/swords

    Hi guys,

Found this online ... has anyone seen a similar one ? And would this then be St&L, Deumer or Souval ? Rare or common ? Am a bit rusty on the KvK ...

    Its an S&L Mathijs.....
Most early S&L KVK1's have the 2nd style pin, (which is usually considered the earliest type used on a KVK1), one we've seen has a leftover wartime pin, this is the first I have seen with the wide pin which they usually used on the EK1!
Its hard to be sure from the photo's how early the KVK actually is....
If it has the quality of a very early piece, then its possible that the very first KVK1's did use this style of pin, if its a slightly later piece, then it is more of a pin variant...but either way, a very interesting piece!!!

Spot on Nigel, I would indeed see this hardware on EK1 ... not KvK. Interesting enough so have gone ahead and purchased it. Price was ok.

Very interesting one. As Nigel suggested it looks early. Very well made. I have a later one from a group that looks roundhouse compared to this.

Same chap also had this one, which I snapped up. Assume St&L ?

That's a great KVK1 Mathis, in fact both of them are!!!
Its made extra special because of the use of the EK1 style pin, so far, the only one I've seen with that setup!!
The second KVK is normally what we would think of as an early version, with the long 2nd style pin....how does the finish on the two KVK's compare Mathijs?
Its always difficult to tell from photos... do they both have the raised parts polished to a mirror finish.....the edges of the arms, numbers, spines of the sword blades etc??

Both have similar high end finish, very brightly polished.

For some reason, looks like the narrow pin has a slightly more crisp finish then the wide pin.

                            Thanks Mathijs!!
That is how it looked from the photo's, but I just wanted to be sure!!!
Often it seems, when these pin variants turn up, it not always the earliest pieces that have them, your wide pin KVK is certainly an early piece, but it might not be quite as early as your other new arrival with the long, narrow pin!!!
                            Both really nice though!!!!!
