Sorry if there’s any misunderstanding Uwe, but Nigel sums it up as spot on, as usual 😊

Cheers Gary.....
I don't really see why 57ers should be treated any differently to other collectable militaria??
If you buy (for example) a 1940 RK, in a case, ideally, you want the RK, case, ribbon and loop all to date from 1940, and all be original to each other..in other words, they have always been together....
If you buy a 1960 RK, in a case, again you want the parts matching, and all to have been together since new.....
You don't really want a loop or ribbon that was made last year in China do you???
Only if the price was much lower!!

Hi,
I think that this is a forum for the exchange of knowledge and, if opinions differ, for an objective exchange of views.
One of the problems is obviously that English is not my mother tongue; I could express things better in German.
Tom B:
Don't pay any attention to Speedytop Tom
To all others: I am interested in the inflationary use of the word "fake" in the 57er area.
This word is used here to describe everything that does not correspond to the ideas of contemporary parts.
As a reminder, the word „fake“ used by you means that these are not original pieces. The cases, ribbons and loops shown here are not originals from the time until May 1945, and they are not 57ers either. If the modern pieces shown here are fakes, then the contemporary pieces (e.g. from 1958) are also fakes.
Why not: I'll rephrase .... case, ribbon and loop are modern made reproductions.
And contemporary pieces are then contemporary reproductions.
Of course, as a collector I would also like to have contemporary pieces in my collection. It goes without saying that the prices for contemporary and non-contemporary reproductions should be different.
Nobody is forced to pay overcharged prices. And we can't force every seller to use correct descriptions. Everybody has to take care of that himself, and often a forum like this also helps with the determination.
Please think about it, without being immediately cramped and without becoming insulting.

This is once again one of your many thousands of point- and useless comments, insulting to me as usual. Unfortunately I cannot take you seriously.

Things will get lost in translation sometimes...the English language can be strange, and I have the upmost respect for anyone from another country who learns English...it isn't easy!!
One problem, is that the same word can have different meanings depending what is being talked about!!!
A good example, and one often used here, is the word "copy"....
It can be used to mean a "later version", a "reproduction" or similar
When used in this way, it is not meant that the item is trying to fool anyone, it is not trying to be something that it is not...
For example.... from a museum or art gallery, you could buy a "copy" of a great work of art by a famous artist or sculptor, no-one would believe it was the original piece, as that would probably never come up for sale, and would be a huge price if it did!!
"Copy" though, is also used in English as another word for a fake....meant to deceive, trying to fool people into believing it was an earlier, original and valuable item, when it isn't!!
Those two meanings can often be confused, especially in this section!!
Just to further illustrate the quirkiness of the English language....
The word "copy" is also used when talking about something like a daily newspaper....you might say" I am going to the shop to buy a copy of todays newspaper"..... when used in this scenario, it just means one of thousands of identical things, with no connection to repro's, fakes or similar!!
Disagreements can arise in the 57 section because, back in the 1950's there were no regulations as to who could make a 57er..the truth was of course that only a small number of makers actually did produce 57ers!
So while it is technically correct that any piece made anywhere at anytime, as long as it looks like the original 57 specimen or muster for a particular badge or medal, is a "57er", no 57 collector would consider a piece made (probably recently) in Eastern Europe or China as an acceptable, collectable or desirable piece... and such pieces will always be deemed as "fake"!!!!!
I imagine that back in 1957 they never imagined that the 57ers would be so collectable and so faked...just like other decorations from other periods??
Sorry for the long winded post.....I don't think I have much else to say on the subject really!!

Hello All,
Firstly, I would like to agree, modern made case, ribbon and WAY overpriced cross.
But, I would dearly like a closer look at that repro case... the base insert looks to be a fabric rather than the usual velvet-like flocking. And, I think it was ME who modified it years ago for a repro RK!!
The case is a cheap LDO copy that I removed the original base from and remade one from heavy cardboard and covered with a piece of black fabric! You can see little ‘burrs’ on the edges of the fabric. If it isn’t the same one I made, then someone had the same idea!!
Would really love to see the construction of the base tray!
Regards - Danny
