    1957 verwundetenabzeichen schwarz

    Hi Folks,

don't seem to have got much help on the other forum.

Can anybody tell me the maker of this post war black wound badge? Personally, I think it might be a Souval piece.

I believe you are correct .... I have a similar one in gold ... quite rare little bugger you have there.

A tough one for me this!!!
I have seen a couple before, identical to yours, black, solid body, same hardware!
It appears to be made of zinc, which always brings to mind Souval when it comes to postwar pieces, but it doesn't match the usual Souval 57 style WB!!
Here are the 2 types side by side, Souval on the left, your type on the right....

      WAF%20WB%20souval%201e.jpg

The usual Souval has these extra berries, which no other maker, or indeed yours has.....

So maybe Souval had two different dies, there are a lot of similar if not identical points of reference between the two, as well as some differences, so a possible link to the same master die.....
Alex is our Souval expert, hopefully he will clear it up!!

Interesting badge. I’m wondering if the pin itself is magnetic or non-magnetic ?
Souval used early coke bottle pins that were magnetic, while S&L used pins were non-magnetic....

          Regards,
          Alex

Hi Alex, the pin itself is magnetic, but the rest of it isn't.

Good call on the pins Alex, I had forgotten that!!!
So......magnetic pin points more towards Souval, as does the base metal of the badge itself, which appears to be Zinc!!
If it is Souval. then why 2 different dies??

.....and if there are two dies, which one is the more desirable amongst collectors?

Looks like I have had a bit of luck at last. I bought it on impulse from a dealer at a militaria fair who normally specialises in TR stuff. I have bought stuff off him in the past. This was the only 57er item he had and I spotted it just as I was leaving. It will now sit nicely with my S&L gold 57 from their early production which you can see below. Just need the silver variety now
