    Question please.

    Hello.
    I am not a 57 collector but I have a question.
I am a big collector of the Red cross and social welfare awards .
what were they given in 57 for the various awards .
    Pictures will be fantastic.
    Regards Pete

    Hi Pete......good question!!!
The Social Welfare medal wasnt made again in any kind of redesigned postwar form, but the Red Cross Decorations were..
Most, reverted back to their pre Nazi design, as they originally were before the Swastika was added, these are'nt considered true "57ers" but were accepted postwar replacement pieces and were owned and worn by veterans.
The Red Cross medal of 1937 is different, this was re-designed without Swastika (which i'm sure you know was the only form it ever existed in) and so, in my opinion should be considered a "57er" It was overlooked though in the Ordensgesetz of 1957, in which all 57ers were supposed to be covered!!!
Anyway, heres a few in my collection in postwar form......

      nice

      nigel.
I see here we have a combination of both the early forms.
This 57 has the same form as the pre 37 but with a more soft head and beak.Unlike the 37 the beak is open 37 closed
we can clearly see the difference between the 57 and the 34 just by the head.
Now,,,,, another question . Who was the maker of these.
as we know Godet waqs the main maker of these and a few variant makers yet to be proven or bloody excepted.
Many thanks so far ...I am finding this very interesting.

S&L were the main makers of these, though I think Deumer may also have made some. The Red Cross medal has been seen in a couple of variants, one type sometimes has the "4" MM of S&L, the other type is unknown maker, but most likely Deumer!!

              Hi Pete!!
All of them are quite rare, and don't often come up for sale!!
Unlike many other S&L postwar pieces, I don't think these have been produced for quite a long time!!

                @Pete....
Here's a postwar medal bar you might find interesting.....
It has a DRK medal (introduced in 1953) and 2 Bavarian Red Cross medals(introduced in 1957)......

If I may add this one .... not a pure 57er red cross badge, but in an 57er setup ...

I like that DRK/BRK medal bar! It's interesting for its use of the traditional "Bavarian fold" of the ribbons and the first-model 25 and 40 year crosses worn side-by-side. (Officially, only the highest grade was to be worn.)

Allow me to add another piece that combines 1957er awards with Red Cross decorations:

                      Hi,

                      Nigel:
The Red Cross medal of 1937 is different, this was re-designed without Swastika (which i'm sure you know was the only form it ever existed in) and so, in my opinion should be considered a "57er" It was overlooked though in the Ordensgesetz of 1957
That is correct, and in the last version of the book: "Nimmergut/Feder/Kasten, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen, Drittes Reich, DDR und Bundesrepublik, Battenberg Verlag, 10th edition 2017" you can find this medal as 57er (No. 2006).

There is no picture, and a problem is, that the 57er medals I've seen are wrong, because they have a shield with a red cross on the breast (see Post 2), what the originals from 1937 don't have; please compare it with an original: https://www.ehrenzeichen-orden.de/na...uzes-1937.html

                      Uwe
