    EK2 case

    Hey guys,

that is my second addition from the last time.

Did Steinhauer und Lück, Deumer etc. also produce cases for the EK2?

I put a "4" marked SuL EK2 in the case.

    Best Stefan

IMO they did not. I believe this is not a 57 item. Tom

Its a nice case, and I think not only from the correct period, but also possibly an S&L product. it certainly looks like their construction......sadly though not for an EK2, or any other 57er!
S&L and the other makers, made hundreds of medals postwar, for every German institution you can think of!!
There is obviously a space below the cross shaped recess for something else, as the mark in the lid liner shows!!
It could have been a set that included a cross, ribbon and buttonhole device??
I have a period EK2 case, that I think was from a retailer, but it only holds cross and ribbon...no extra's!!
The reddish velvet reminds me of the Red Cross medal cases that S&L made, I wonder if it was for a similar state, rather than national institution??
Still, why not keep your EK2 in there, and add a ribbon too!!!!!!!!!

The case is for the 'Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste im Brandschutz Rheinland-Pfalz'.

          Regards,

To me this is an early-mid 1957 style Knight Cross case where someone replaced the insert tray.

I would assume it has a flat bottom, but it also has the line running across the lid, so an intermediate version.

Nice - if at all possible try to source the black inlay tray and glue it back in - my two cents.

I wondered about this. I would have gone straight to RK case. This explains things a little

The gap along the right hand side of the insert suggests added to the box, but it may have been added by S&L to an RK box to suit a different award as suggested above.

                            Thanks for that Stefan!!
It is smaller than an RK case!
S&L made a lot of similar style cases for a lot of different awards, not just 57ers, so I think Nick is probably correct!!!

Oh wow, okay, the plot thickens.

                              So what Nick says,

'The case is for the 'Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste im Brandschutz Rheinland-Pfalz'.

Does anyone have a photo of this to confirm?
