    Maybe the Oaks have been spray painted to make them look good?

    Maybe a little acetone might tell.

      Definitely not spray paint. It is a plating of some kind. The cross itself is magnetic and multi piece, with very well done soldering and finish...

        For me the cross looks fine ... and would be happy to own it.
        Perhaps they weren't pleases with the core and repainted after assembly ?
        Who knows .... Have seen a few like these, but not many.
