    Tank Badges

Acquired a couple of nice Tank Badges for my small 57 collection.

Early type bronze and silver badges.

    Hi Wayne!!
    2 nice and early S&L PAB's!!
Always good to compare the cutouts on these badges, around the turret rear and gun barrel, they can vary greatly!! On average the earlier pieces have more cutout, but not always, it may have depended on who worked on each badge!
I still haven't worked out the "O" mark placement on S&L badges, it is on some while not on others, and it can vary in position too....strange!!!!!!!!

Nigel......It appears that the silver badge has the remains of a coat of lacquer.

      Ever seen this before?

The bronze has more cut out than the silver around the barrel.

Indeed so - wonder if that is to differ them between bronze & silver during fabrication ?
Or would that just be individual factory worker preference .... hmm.

And the silver has more cut out behind the turret.

I think a certain amount of hand finishing was involved in the PAB, and the cutout's do vary a lot, even between badges of a similar age, so it probably was down to the individual doing the work, as to how much effort they put into each piece, similar to the cutout's on the edge's of Oaks etc.

PS.... I know some S&L pieces did have a laquer finish, can't recall if we have seen it on a Silver PAB before??
