    Hi Nigel,

What do you think about the finish on the Gold CCC? To me it looks like pooled paint in both the rectangle around the hinge block, and the circle around the catch. I pulled all of my CCC and they are perfectly smooth finished in these areas. The finish outside of those areas is EXACTLY the same level of smoothness as inside. Also, the base of the hinge block looks like it has some "gunk" around it and was then painted?

@ER: Earlier would mean early 60's-mid 60's production based upon the tapering pin, solid hinge block, and narrow catch.

    Best,

    Jeff

      Hi Jeff!!
To be honest i'm not sure!!
As you know, making a call on paint and coloured washes from a photo is very difficult!!
I hear what you are saying about the area's you mentioned, could be something, hard to say??
The colour of the Gold finish itself looks ok, but again lighting, flash etc can affect Gold colour probably more than any other!!
I think we can say for sure its an earlier 60's piece and not a later/ modern made version!!
@Nathan would it be possible to take some close views of the area's Jeff mentioned?? Even if it means waiting while you get a sunny day, with good natural light!!

        Hi Nigel,

The "red arrow" areas should be the same degree of finish "smoothness" based upon what I see on all of my S&L CCC. Also, the area around the back plate "yellow arrow" areas looks different than what I am seeing as well. Mine have a very straight and thin vertical line at these points. anyway, fun to analyze. Maybe it was just a Friday in September at S&L!

        Best,

        Jeff

You might well be right there Jeff.....
Not every piece made was perfect, and if the finish did "pool" a little, it probably wouldn't have been considered bad enough to stop the CCC leaving the factory??

So if the CCC is 60's, what time frame would the army flak be produced since its "later"?

I think the finish on the Gold CCC looks original!!
The Flak badge looks like a piece from maybe around 1980?

                  Hi,

Looks better in the sunlight, so maybe just not the best finish in areas on the reverse. Would really have to see it in hand, but it is definitely an early 60's S&L CCC. The Army Flak would be mid 70's more than likely.

                  Jeff

Jeff, to summarize your thought on the CCC, wouldn't it just be the quality often lacks in the later pieces. We have seen that on some pieces that have been posted here and this one isn't any different. Just my thoughts - you guys are the experts.

                    Regards,
                    Rudy

                      Hi Rudy,

I still wonder a little about the finish on the CCC, but that is just me. Other than that, I am just a humble sammler.

Off to E-Stand they went, so they can be purchased there.

                      Best,

                      Jeff

Maybe its me, but I'm also not liking the FLAK - seems too crude for me.

Guessing the CCCiG is the only good badge in there .... sorry.
