    Opinions on '57 Badges.

    Hello,

I bought these badges in a big group of stuff earlier this week. I know nothing about the 57 awards. Are these real '57s or knockoffs? The Gold and Bronze CCC with the pin marked "2" seem to be knockoffs to me....the others look like good ones. Again, I know nothing about these and appreciate the help in advance.

    Thanks,

    Nathan

P.S. - the "2" CCC's catches are crimped shut for some unknown reason....

          Hi Nathan,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I would be getting some of your money back!

Anything stamped #2 is immediately going to be a "reproduction". Unless someone puts a fake stamp on an authentic award, which is bad as well. You can look in the reference area and see what authentic hardware looks like.

The CCC have a separate backplate so they have been modeled after S&L 57er awards. The middle CCC appears to have a base plate under the catch? The middle one might have a chance, I will have to look on a larger screen, the base plate would be unusual. Look at the two #2 marked CCC and see how narrow the M24 grenade is compared to the middle CCC.

I would want to see better straight on images of the Army Flak. It does appear it could be a late S&L production award.

The horse riders badge has a crazy wide pin and a very narrow catch. I would like to see clearer images of this badge.

          Best,

          Jeff

            Hi Nathan!
I agree with Jeff, from these pics, the only one that seems to stand a good chance of being a genuine piece is the centre Gold CCC, the one without the "2"!
As Jeff mentioned, there's possibly also a chance for the Army Flak???
The others look to be cast fakes, but larger, straight on photo's of each individual piece would be better, certainly the CCC!!

                          Hi,

Mobile now so looking at using my phone. I think the CCC is OK, but might have been repainted? Is that paint pooled in the circle around the catch?

The Army Flak looks like late S&L production with quite a bit of "aging". Still on the fence about this one.

I do not like the Horse Riders badge.

Let's see what Nigel thinks too.

                          Best,

                          Jeff

As we thought, a bit of a mixed bag I think!!
We can forget the two CCC's with makers mark, and also the Riders badge, as that looks cast.
The Army Flak does look like a genuine, albeit late S&L piece, while the other Gold CCC appears to be earlier than I first thought...
Has it got a solid hinge-block? Catch looks thinner/earlier and it is nicely vaulted!!

Yes, the it does have a solid block hinge. It is definitely vaulted. Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by "earlier"?

Glad to hear that the Flak is a good one! Thanks for the help!
