These are clearly sold as replica's but once they have changed hands, it could be a different story!!
The 25 year in particular looks very much like a late produced S&L piece!!

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, but what exactly makes these replicas ? Of course these are produced today - most likely in a very foreign country, look rather strange and any remaining vet won't be a buyer for them - still as far as I know, there is no rule that "57ers" are to be made by anyone specific as for licensing or even within a specific production time frame. So technically these are no different from let'a say a KVK2 by S&L made in the 1980's ?? Correct me if I'm wrong.

                    Regards,
                    Alex

                      Hi Alex,

A BIG difference in my opinion! I think it all comes down to the maker. If a 57er award is made by one of the "wartime" makers who produced 57er awards post-war, all is good. An S&L produced 57er award made in the 80's would be equal in "legitimacy" to one produced in the 60's. As we know, the earlier an award was produced, the better the quality, and higher the collectability. Also, awards produced earlier have a better chance of a direct "vet" connection.

Yes, anyone technically can produce 57er style awards. If someone likes Chinese produced (like yesterday) 57er style awards, have at it. Good luck ever trying to sell them, for what they are. Another issue arises when these awards are passed off as produced in Germany, great provenance, etc.

Better get Uwe in on this thread!

                      Best,

                      Jeff

True, anyone could make a 57er, but surely to virtually any 57 collector, there are good pieces and bad pieces, whatever you call them (replica/ fake/ copy/ Chinese alternative) it doesn't really matter does it?? Some are BAD and we all know it!!
It depends how precise and accurate you want to be!!
As each of the new form 57 decorations was ok'd, strict regulations were laid down concerning the design and construction of each piece.....
The design, the materials used, the colour of the paint/wash/enamelling etc. etc.
Any piece that didn't follow the guidelines, in theory shouldn't be called a 57er, that alone would probably rule out a lot of the modern made versions, but sticking so precisely to the original muster actually makes some (what we would call) "good" 57ers not correct!! If for example S&L finished a Cholm shield in any colour other than silver, then, if you want to be 100% accurate, it wouldn't be correct, and wouldn't be "technically" a 57er, but to most 57 collectors, such a piece would probably be seen as a rare and sought after variant!!
Its entirely up to the individual what to collect....
But.....would any of us buy these Morigi pieces for our collections?
                        No??
                        Enough said!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm afraid I agree with Nigel, these modern made pieces are not true 57's, as such by definition, but a modern representation!
Late production 57's, in my mind ended late 1980's!
Anything after that are copies for financial game only, not repeat awards.
Just my opinion, maybe not everyone's!!

But S&L is still making their stuff right now. Alex, it is an interesting question. In the end it comes down to periods. If it comes after May 8th 1945, forget it (for some), its post war so no good. If it comes within the time frame from wartime makers who took up postwar replacement and 57er production then its okay.... unless its Souval

If it comes from China or Latvia or the UK and is actually made to fool people then it is cashing in and sucks. And in truth its not what its pretending to be and I think that's fair enough.
