    Johanniter - Knights of Honour

    Hey everyone,

    here is one of my Johanniter Orders that I have picked up recently. This is a later made St&L variant. It's the "Knights of Honour" class. These pieces are very hard to find on the collectors market as they are not publicly sold to collectors. So even later made pieces are very collectible and hard to obtain.

                  Very nice Alex, and, as you said, rare pieces, whatever the date!!
                  The originals were indeed to be handed back on the death of the recipient, and only the privately purchased 2nd pieces should be kept, and it is these pieces that occasionally turn up for sale! I would guess most families would keep hold of them, so not many do come up on the open market!!
                  From the study I have done on them, the later pieces...80's onwards have little or no white enamel in the very centre, where the arms meet, have no raised rim around the loop eye, and a raised edge around the pie crust on one side only......
                  Yours has a larger enamel centre, raised rim around loop eye, and pie crust edge on both sides, so may well be earlier than that, although I don't know if they have changed anything in more recent years!!
                  Anyway, always great to see more examples of this scarce award!!!

                      It's from ebay ?? If so I saw that auction and I had a big appetite for it... unfortunately I haven't got such $ .........

                      VERY hard to get, as you have said! But it's worth any (well, maybe almoust any) money imo. They looks great in exposition (as they are a little bigger than PLM as I remember correctly?).

                        Thanks Patryk ! I know these are hard to find and often for sell for big cash, even later or damaged crosses.
                        In fact I'm thinking about selling the St&L Cross. If you are interested I might let it go...

                        As for the "Knights of Honour" - Rothe also made the Pour le Merite; there are a few important details that match Rothe's production. (Style of the pie wedge suspension, dot style inside the pie crust, rim around the loop, enamel style towards the edges and a few other details)

                        As for the size, the St&L is the biggest of them. I guess I could do some comparison pics to a few PLM's.
